• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I started a thread in the General forum regarding demand for the M3.5 screws for the vintage scope rings. I am trying to get the screws manufactured as to appear as close as possible to the originals. I am preparing a print right now to send off to machine shop to firm up his quote.

I can have a thousand screws made for somewhere between $2.00 to $2.50 ea. Only 2 members have expressed interest. With my requirement and theirs, I can see a demand right now for less than 100 screws. I probably won't continue working on this project unless there is more interest.

One member suggested having the screws hardened. I personally dont think it is a good idea. The screw probably would be very brittle and have a tendency to break.

Tracy -- I agree not to harden the screws. If over-torqued, the screw threads should strip instead of stripping the mount threads. Also, I'd much rather have the screw threads strip than for the screw to twist into.

I hope some more guys respond to your effort. I hear people constantly asking where they can get these screws, so where have all those people disappeared to?

Tracy!
Thanks for all your efforts so far!!
I will send a PM to all members in regards to this matter!
For those who are interested, I will urge them to post here so we all could see how big the interest is!
Thanks again!

I would like some! I would like to replace about 3 sets worth (24 screws) plus get a few spares. Just let me know how much and how to get them ordered. Thanks. Jaeger.

Jaeger,

I am still waiting for delivery of the first lot of 600 screws. It appears that they all are already spoken for. I have about 200 screws at the machine shop that are not slotted. The heads need a secondary operation before they can be slotted. I didn't bother with them because there didn't appear to be any demand. The first lot all sold out at $2.50 each. The second lot will cost a little bit more because of the smaller batch. I am only guessing, but I think they will be about $ 2.65 to $2.75 each. There are pictures in this thread: https://sakocollectors.lefora.com/2010/02/17/demand-for-ring-screws/#post6

I have no idea when I might have them finished - maybe the fall. I can put you on a waiting list.

Hey Tracy -- just a shout out to you once again from all of us to thank you for taking on this project! And another suggestion: If someone is in a hurry for some screws, you might consider letting them have some of the "raw" unfinished ones that they can finish, or have them finished, themselves.

Sure, put me on list. And increase my order to 50 screws. I have a friend who is interested in two full sets as well. Thanks for all your efforts on this project. Jaeger

Stonecreek,

Thanks, I understand your suggestion. If I sell the too many unfinished ones, it will drive up the per unit price to finish the rest of the batch. Screw slotting is a tricky operation unless you have the proper tools. Also, the cheapest saw that I can find is a jewelers saw that costs about $17.00. If you add $10.00 for UPS the final cost is $27.00. For a dozen screws that is $2.25 per screw for just the saw. You can do the math yourself for other quantities. I have already paid for the proper screw slotting saw. I am going to push ahead to get the second batch finished.
