• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Barrel Threads

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

L61R, AIII and AV have the same thread. L691 and 75 have the same, as well as the same trigger assembly etc. I would assume the 85 too, but I have not confirmed that.

Mr -

"as well as the same trigger assembly, etc " ?

While the barrel threads may well be the same from the original L-61s up through modern day 75s and maybe even 85s, I don't think the the triggers are...

Maybe I'm misreading your post, and I'll have to admit to not having hands on experience with the newer rifles... However, I'm pretty certain that somewhere around 1990 Sako started using the Tikka or M-90 trigger and that it is not the same or interchangable with the earlier #4 type.

Clarify? Dick

Dick!
I think you misread Mr Fiberclass.
The triggers were the same up until late AVxB4s when the new triggers were introduced. And they used them on both L691 and M75. Check this info and youxB4ll find some info on the M90 project:

Jim:

Thanks for that PDF!

What the factory propaganda doesn't say is that the smaller actions gained a lot of unnecessary bulk to make the manufacturing process easier! This largely negated the justification for the shorter actions.

Since I concentrate on L-series guns (and a few early A-series), I don't really know much about the S-series and later. Here's my question: Did the Model 75 series continue with all actions having the same diameter, that is being essentially identical except for length, or was their bulk matched to cartridge size like the L-series?

So a barrel from a 691 would fit a 75? Are 691 actions stamped "691" on the side, or are they stamped "AV"? Does anyone have a photo of a 691 out of the stock that they can post? This is very interesting.

wookie!
Yeahh! They are stamped L691 on the left side before the serial #. And the barrels should swap easily between the 75 and the L691.
I know where to find a very lightly used .416 bbl from a 75. ItxB4s cheap and I am contemplating buying an L691 and make it into a .416 but wexB4ll see?

My 7mm Classic is stamped AV, but has the bigger trigger like the 75 & is flat on the bottom. The front lug is just like the AV. It has a 2 piece trigger guard & a different internal box then the L61R AV internal box. Would the threads be the same as a L61R or 75 on this action? Or were some of the last AV's fitted with the new style trigger before they went to the 691? Here is a picture of the stamp.

I have some possible barrel switching in my future, and am exploring my options.

wookie!
Sako used the 2 piece trigger guard along with the new trigger/safety assembly on late AVxB4s. But if they used the same threads as on L691/ M75?? I havenxB4t got a clue IxB4m afraid!!
I would think they started using new threads when they started producing L691 actions but hey!! This Sako so anything is possible or_plausible!!

Wookie - you have an AV M90. It is the same thread as AV. The trigger assembly is the same as for L691 and M75, but the floorplate is a one off. Older AV, AIII and L61R has a different trigger asembly.

If that's an actual photo of Wookie's AV then I'm confused. I have always identified the late A-V's with the newer trigger by their second (rear) stock through bolt. It was my understanding that the larger trigger, which required the removal of more wood, prompted the addition of the second stock through bolt to strengthen the inletting cut. Am I off-base on this?

I did have a snap of the L691 mag from a guy selling one on gunbroker about a mo ago..will search and maybe able to contact him directly. There is a guy here emmerth(?) that knows someone with a L691 4 sale (maybe sold now)
So what i need is the breech dimension on the L691 and a M995 if you have it. Hasn't anyone put together the catalog of blue prints??? Heh I have the link and have the images. As our great leader and founder said I am the "Detective"(found orig MSN guy..anyway can not insert image cause it is not a valid URL..if this does not work email me and I will send attachment
