• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

AV series finishes

Hi all,
Just joined after my acquisition of an AV magnum bolt face action. Not sure if all AVs were magnum bolts. Anyway, my question to you all is, should the finish on the floorplate match that of the action? The finish on the action and bolt is a flat black (blue) and the finish on the floorplate is more of a satin blue. Also, where can I find a stock for the action as I'm looking to turn it into a build.
Wondering if the action or floorplate was redone/not done. The previous owner didn't ask any question like that in his time of ownership.
Any help would be great! Thanks!

A-V's were made in both magnum (.530") and standard (.473") bolt faces.

The action sounds as if it has been refinished (or bead blasted) to a matte finish. All A-V actions used a fairly bright blue, with the "standard" action being less polished than the very highly polished "Deluxe" action. The Deluxe came with an engraved floorplate.

Almost all of the "semi-inletted" wood stock companies make a stock for the A-V (which will be the same semi-inlet they make for the L61R and A-III -- the only difference is that the A-V requires a little further inletting to accomodate its longer upper action tang). Bell and Carlson and some of the other synthetic stock makers also make an A-V stock.

Ghostrider,

When the rifle left the factory the bluing was the same. Perhaps the flloorplate and action turned a bit over time. Is the texture or feel the same? If this is different, this would point to the action being re done but not the floorplate, which may be a replacement.

BTW, the AV is the Sako A series long action which accomodated magnum as well as normal (30-06 class) rounds.
