• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

AV 338-06 Value

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

This is a standard version, not the deluxe. Blueing is more satin than bright and stock is nice figure wood but no embelishments. Barrl has ramp front sight and Weaver rear sight which looks cheap.

Serial No. is 825497. Gun has a McMillan recoil pad - is this original? Also, has a Williams rear sight - is this original? Is $900 a fair price? Gun is in near new condition. Thank you for any information or opinions. You may have to double click on photo to see a better picture.

This is not a standard Sako, but is a custom stock and barrel on a Sako A-V action. It is a very nice looking stock, but it has no crossbolt, so it is definately not a Sako factory stock. And Sako has never chambered the .338-06 to my knowledge.

Not knowing who did the barrel or the stock, it is impossible to say whether the asking price is appropriate or not. I can only say that Gander Mountain is not known for offering bargain prices on their used guns.

Fair price? Depends!

It's not like Sakos in .338-06 are easily available. This is an absolute great round that can push a 180 gr bullet at ~2,900 fps with a std length ctg and std boltface.

That looks like a McMillan Fibergrain stock. McMillans now go for about $450 alone.

If the gun is in good shape and you want it, the price is within reason.

My $.02

Prospector/Dave,
I can attest to the McMillan's cost. I got a the latest model A-5, and it was over $700. Interesting rifle. Should pack a punch all right. Offer them $800. Don't know if Gander Mtn. deals but if it's been there a while they might. You'd probably scope it anyway so you won't worry about the iron sights. Looks very nice.

sako -a -series.
Yes, and a little bit north of that. It is desert camo painted. Very nice, but pricy. Got it from a shop in Oklahoma City. Best price I could find at the time.
