I read that some don’t like the 85s. I was thinking of getting one but would love to know the pros and cons. The new bolt face intrigues me.

85's are perfectly fine rifles with all metal construction. I think people most dislike the way they are more like tools made for a job and lacking in fine craftsmanship of the older models.

The design flaws that are often reported are limited to the receiver sizes M (30-06 length) and L (magnums). Most troublesome of which is the tendency to eject the empty casing in to the scope thus dropping the empty back in the action. Model 75 does this as well BTW. Not every single M or L action does this, but it seems to be the most common problem of all.

Composite stocks lose their "soft touch" coating fairly easily.

If you are contemplating getting one in 308 caliber or any caliber that goes in the S size action and it has a walnut stock then you need not worry. It will work fine and be a joy forever.

So the Bavarian in 7 mm 08 will be a great rifle?

Trouble is they are all sold out everywhere! What crazy times we are in. They can’t keep guns or ammo in stock!

Most certainly. Make sure you clean the bore when you get it. It's not cleaned very well (at all) at the factory after the test shooting, just oiled. I also suggest you wipe down the outside surfaces of the receiver and barrel with some good protective oil such as Birchwood Casey Sheath. After these initial steps you are good to go.

Lots of sako 85 for sale in Canada too many people actually want a gun that will function properly 100% of the time. They sell here used from 55%-65% of new prices.

I like my New 85 in 7 mm 08. It ejects fine with a scope. Not as far as when there is no scope so it clearly hits the scope but it ejects. The rest of the rifle is great. It’s Bavarian stock sets up perfectly for the iron sights or peep sight. I’ll use it mostly without a scope. I think that is it’s intended function.
