just wondering how common they are?
Ok its not made at the Sako factory, but by a company called 'Schukra' in Austria,

This is the first one I have seen,

Gents, it appears to be a fold up cleaning rod
The centre piece in the handle pull back and bends over a cam, and the rod straightens out to attach brushes or the like.
would work well to take back packing

Ahh yes, I never noticed all the segments in the outer jacket. It looked like the cable extension for a commercial Dremel. Although I have never been backpacking long enough or shot enough rounds to need cleaning. But what a cool piece of Sako collectable.

David, You never guess, but my name is 'Jim' also:)
It could be all of the things you guys suggested, it took a few minutes of fiddling with to get any idea what it might be!
But I am not really 100% sure, so if any one has seen one, let us know what it was sold as?

I got it with some Sako dies and bits and pieces, I bought off a Dealer some months back!
Really would like a Sako Cigarette lighter also but will probably never find one! lol

    witchetty grub puller :)

I've never seen anything like it. I wonder if sako offered this with one of there special rifles? i.e. cased ann. rifles etc
It certainly looks well made and difficult/time consuming to make!

This is my first post. I was directed to this forum by a search for "Schukra Cleaning Rod".

I received one of these rods with the purchase of a pre-war Mauser sporting rifle and was curious about it's history.
Have you learned any new information since this thread was active ? --------------- Thanks, Richard
