I recently acquired a H&R Presentation Grade 17-223 Ultra Wildcat Rifle from one of our members. The rifle is absolutely pristine and the furniture is the darkest and best figured stock of the lot.

I have not removed the scope as yet so I don't know if there are any setscrew marks on the top of the dovetails. Regardless, this one is definitely a keeper.

    Check out the pics.

    Your comments always welcome.

I only need a 317P in 222 to complete the set. If you have one to sell please PM me.

    Enjoy!

If that basketweave was done by Nils Hultgren his initials "NH" are usually found in the LH pistol grip panel. Not sure if Hultgren did all of the 317 Presentations or not.

Lovely rifle Rick, and I so love the " Basket Weave " chequering on the pistol - grip " I have a Sako L579 stock that is similer in colour to your H & R. I'm looking for a genuine Sako rubber butt - pad, but no luck here in England UK.

    Hi Stone

So far I have not found a NH stock on any of the 317P rifles that I have. In a previous discussion on this subject it was my understanding that H&R had a few excellent folks working in the back room that did the fancy basket weave carving on the presentation grade stocks. I also believe that many of the carvers were women that had a particular talent for doing such meticulous and intricate work.
