• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Aftermarket Triggers

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

Hey wookie -

Yeah, it's not like you're gonna be buried in choices of aftermarket triggers for Sakos. Timney is the only one that I know of that is currently making a trigger for your rifle. Believe it's in their Featherweight series, so it should go from 1 1/2-4 lbs. I've never used one on a Sako myself, but do have a Rem that came with one. If I remember right, it's an aluminum body, but still seemed to work ok.

The only aftermarket triggers I have personal experience with are the now defunct Canjars. Have one of their standards which is set at 2 lbs. Also have a couple of the single-sets, which I like a lot. While they were never easy to get, you're now reduced to squabbling over them used, online. I did pick one up 6-8 months ago, but it was danged pricey... Once in a while you see a rifle come up for sale with one installed.

You might also consider working with several factory triggers... I'd be suprised if you actually hit 1 1/2, but I'll bet you could come closer to 2 than 3 with enough fiddling around. I do know that no two are exactly the same, but I've never messed around with them enough to say how low you can safely go. I do know you have to be careful of temp extreems and lube when you get down there...

I've given up on Arnold Jewell's crowd to ever produce a Sako trigger again. Guess they made some, but had mixed results. Think they've got their hands full just trying to keep up with the 700 footprint stuff.

Good luck and keep us posted. Dick

I figured there would not be many options. Thanks. I think there is somw wear on this factory trigger because it has been set wrong for so long. I just picked this rifle up about a month ago and it was set way out of adjustment. 3 lbs seems to be the best I can get out of it now. A smith may be able to get it better?

Hey Wookie -

Just had a thought - If your trigger isn't adjusting up right, and you think the previous owner was dinking around with it, wonder if the problem isn't with the sear adjustment? Imagine your rifle is new enough to have it. If you haven't found it, it's because it comes in from the top, and you have to dismount the trigger to access it... So, a real pain to iron out - lots of on and off action. I've only monkeyed around with one of mine, and that turned into a tar baby of sorts...

Well, hopefully the Timney will be a good solution.

Dick

Wookie: I have spare Sako OEM triggers. I'm willing to swap one of mine for your troubled one. This may cure your problem You can send a PM if you wish.

Thanks for the offer but that won't work. The way our law is up here I can't import any firearm parts without an import/export permit worth $250.00. Not to mention all the paperwork. There used to be $100.00 exemption, but they did away with that awhile back. Like I say it seems to be working fine at 3lbs which is good for any hunting rifle, but I want it lower for those gophers I really want to reach out & touch.

The 75 triggers will work on the late L's, but Sako will not sell them. I have tried to get their new set triggers that came on some 75's. Bernard Tika target triggers, can be milled (sear lowered by .010 to fit on the L series actions. They also fit TRG's with no work required. The trigger guards need to be worked on to make them fit. The Bernard triggers are great, You can get them from Mac Tilton at MT guns Santa Barbra Cal.

Sometimes spending a dollar or two is worthwhile. I have a Ruger M77 which had a terrible trigger. A local (very competent) gunsmith installed a Timney which is supposedly adjustible down to 2 lbs. I told him I wanted it taken down to about 6 oz which he did. What a delight to shoot! Cost of the trigger, installation, and fine tuning was about $135.00.

If I find myself unhappy with the trigger on my newly acquired Vixen in 6MM PPC, it will find itself in his shop for tuning.
