Looking for ammo or reloading supplies for 7x33 Sako cartridge. Any leads would be appreciated Thanks
That makes two of us! Actually, I have adequate factory ammunition for the moment, but I'm very interested in reloading for my 7x33. Since I have an adequate supply of brass and can use adapted 7mm BR dies successfully, the main thing I'm missing is a proper bullet in the sub-100 grain weight. The lightest available are Hornady 100 grain hollow points, but they are much too long to fit in the magazine when loaded. I've been searching for a clean and easy way to remove a few millimeters of length from the hollow nose, but have yet to strike the right method. I think these bullets with the nose milled off to an appropriate length and weighing around 85-90 grains would work well in the 7x33.
The only dies I found listed were RCBS in "category outrageous" for something in the neighborhood of $150 or so. Not being interested in that kind of robbery, I found some 7mm Benchrest Remington dies (used, about 25 bucks) which will neck size and seat the 7x33 just fine. Actually, if you just wanted to neck size, you could take nearly any die for a 7mm cartridge (7x57, for example) and cut the proper amount off of the base to allow the little 7x33 to enter the die far enough to reach the neck portion of the die. The 7mm BR is short enough that you don't have to cut off the die. I was very disappointed at Lee. They claim they will custom make a collet die set for just $50 if you send them a couple of fired cases. I did so and after a while they returned them with the note that the cartridge was "too short" to build a Lee Collet die. B.S., in my opinion. I have ample cases, but where did you find the bullets and what description are they?
Stonecreek: Thank for the info, I lucked in and found some SP from a fellow gunnut, he picked them up at a gun show thinking of using for a 7mm magnum plicker load. Changed his mind to my good fortune. Have you looked at CH4D? Bob
Got the projectiles now all I need is 100 original Sako Cases. Anyone with a stash they like to get rid of? Bob
