• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I am thinking of buying a used but very nice Sako 75 Stainless in 375 Holland Holland with synthetic stock. Should I instead buy the Sako 85 for some more money or is this not worth paying for? What general differences are there besides the weight? Appreciate a prompt reply from some experts ;-)

Hello and welcome to the club Holland holland. There are a number of changes made to the model 85, these include a slimmer stock profile (no monte-carlo) more of a classic style with a different checkering pattern (not such a classic style). Trimming of the bolt shroud, a little more sculptured-must be a weight thing.
Machining differences to the bolt body itself including sculpting to the locking lugs and a cut out in the bottom of the bolt face to allow for what has been described as controlled round feeding - maybe be at best controlled round push feed. Steel bedding plate to the front of the action screwed to the stock, steel platform under the rear tang. There are a few more sublte differences and another that should be mentioned is the release mechanism for the box magazine - 75 is one stage, pull the lever back and magazine pops out. 85 you must push the magazine inwards before pulling the lever back, this would eliminate accidental relaese.

Hope this helps with you make a choice, you could of course find yourself a nice L61r !!!

So, what makes the L61R unique and better than the 75 or 85? Is the L61R still in the making or an older model than the 75?

Thanks for all your thoughts. Think I will go for the 75 if I get it with the Zeiss Diavari Z 3-12x56 for EUR 2,000 (USD 2,800).
