• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I have one I have one.....finally
[SakoCollectors.com] 300 H&H L61R deluxe

Needs some TLC but is in good shape. I do not know whether to remove the mounts and rings it came with or keep it as it is. Scope is an 8x56 Karl Kaps......will surely remove that horrible slip on recoil pad and rubber sun shades.

Rear mount can be undone and screw holes plugged with grub screws.

Barrel ring can be de-soldered and blueing retouched.

Will take better pics when it arrives from Germany.

great find, oneshot ! I have one just like it, with the open sites and all. Will be curious on your serial number range, mine is in the 45,xxx range, late '60s.

Oneshot, I don't know if I would change a thing, unless it won't hold a zero or is optically challenged. I have heard this type of mount set up is very expensive and very accurate. -Bloo

Actually yes you are right bloo. The mounts are very expensive as raw components and require hand fitting to the individual gun. Germans love them as they are very strong and hold zero perfectly.

Probably keep them as is but remove those horrible rubber bellows. The seller said it's zeroed and ready to shoot as is with Winchester 180grainers.

Serial number is 461XX. Have to check the proofs for the year though.

Looking forward to get some meat with this one!

Herb

oneshotbandit,
Great find on the rifle and a most interesting scope mount. I'd sure want to try it like it is, and maybe even keep the mount on it if it's not dinged up. Most unusual and not seen here that often I've never seen one on this side of the pond and that sure would be a conversation piece at the range.
deergoose,
Feel like taking picture of yours? Would like to see it in a little more detail.
Good stuff guys. Thanks,
S-A

Herb,

Nice rifle!

I would keep the rifle set up as is. It is a good scope and you will never have problems with it. If you do take it off, you will not like what you see when you remove the front mount from the barrel. The barrel will need to be ground, polished, and then reblued because those mounts are soldier on.

Oneshot,

What caliber is it? I agree with emmerth about keeping it the way it is less the rubber goods. I love the old vintage Sako scope rings but also love good quality unique stuff and thats looks to be very interesting. Is the scope and mount German made? Those Germans make some pretty darn good stuff, I have an HK 770 .308 semi auto rife and the accuracy is as good as a good bolt gun.

Got to love a good meat getter!

Some how I missed that in the post title. been a long day. I go to most all the gun shows here in South West Florida and dont see many 300 H&H's from any gun makers.

per your request, oneshot. Pics are here.

I know of one other H&H deluxe in the 45k serial # range, and yours is not too far later than that one and mine. The factory must have done up a few in deluxe at the same time, which is logical, but just speculation on my part. I've also seen this "ranging" concept with .338 deluxes. Typically in the high 50,000 serial range, say from 58,500 up to just shy of 60,000. Seen a half dozen or so in this range, and have one in .338 in the high 58k serial.

thanks,

DeerGoose

Exquisite, Deergoose! I don't suppose you'd want to swap for a 16 gauge Mossberg bolt action and a carton of #57 shotshell primers? I could throw in 1,000 Herter's 3/8" cork wads and an RG-22 revolver with a broken hammer to sweeten the deal.

Stone!
ThatxB4s a pretty good deal! If he passes on that I donxB4 t know what to think??!!:bigsmile3:

A carton of beer and a handshake goes a long way between friends over here.

The cards are on the table DeerGoose - it's your call

These are all good offers, with the Beer and Handshakes being of high interest, I've seen trades that have included shade lamps, lawn tractors, and adult videos! tough decisions -Bloo

Hey Stonecreek !!

All of your offer sounds very nice.......but.....I must respectively decline ! ha, ha.

Think I'm going to hold onto this one for a while.

cheers,
DeerGoose

Heck. I knew I should have gone ahead and offered the sporterized Japanese Ariska. It's been rechambered using a 9/16" drill bit chucked into a Craftsman electric drill to use a necked-up .257 Roberts case, and comes complete with a Tasco 4x16mm scope mounted in see-thru rings.

hey now, Craftsman makes a good drill, would you be interested in selling this rifle in parts. I'd like to have the see-thru's and the 9/16th" drill bit:bigsmile3: -Bloo

I have gone over those pictures a hundred times....beautiful stuff. Can't wait to lay hands on mine. And...it really looks good without the flippin' scope hardware!
