• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Was looking at an L579 in the 42000 s/n range in 250 savage. Were many of these made. Haven't seen but a few in all my looking.

I've got a L579 in 250 Savage but it's a custom. I'm not aware of Sako chambering in 250 Savage, are you sure it's a factory barrel and not a custom?

No factory Sakos in .250 Savage. It would make a nice fit in an L-579, however, as a custom rebarrel. And it will have to be a custom barrel as Sako's only .25 caliber barrels have been a few .25-20's sixty or so years ago, plus those in .25--06 beginning in the early 1970s. Neither would be suitable for rechambering to .250 Savage.

Funny, I have a Deluxe in 22-250 that I have been thinking about rebarreling. I have been strongly considering the 250 or another 358 Win. I think the 257 Bob would be too long.

Sakolou,

I've seen a few .257 Roberts built on the L579, but the magazine is very limiting for this round. The .244 factory Sako (same case as the Roberts) I own does great with varmint weight bullets, but requires rather deep seating for "deer" bullet in the 90-100 grain class. When I was shooting a Roberts years ago, the action was a commercial German Mauser with a magazine around 3.1" long. This is about perfect for the Roberts, 7x57, or even an 8x57.

I'd say that if you want a factory cartridge in .25 caliber on an L579/A-II that the .250 Savage is a great choice. If you want to go wildcat, then a .25-08 works fine. If maximum velocity is important, then you can actually get a .25-284 into the action, but it is going to be a bit crowded, also.

Don't mean to but in, however I think I read somewhere that Sako did chamber a .257 Roberts and made less than 20 of them. That being the case, I sure would like to run into one. I think it was in one of the SCA Finnmark newsletters.

One of the .257 Roberts on a Sako L579 (not factory) I recall seeing at a gun show was purported to have been built for one of the Hunt brothers (H.L. Hunt oil company, KC Chiefs, etc.) He could certainly have afforded anything he wished. Can't recall why the owner said that Hunt parted with it.

Stonecreek, thanks for the note. Now I have to choose between the 250 and 358, however, since I have a 358 I will probably go with the 250. I hate such tough decisions.
