• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

.244 L57's and 579's

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

Duk- I can't answer that question, however, if you go back and read the very old posts (takes time) I believe the answer is in there somewhere. Just about the time I think I know something about Sakos, I find I do not.- Best, Mike

Judging from the dearth of them on the market, I'd say not many.

After many years of searching, I have acquired both a sporter (standard grade) and a heavy barrel in an L579. I've never come across this chambering in L57, but I know they were catalogued.

The HB is the only one I've ever seen (didn't even know they existed until I stumbled into it). Since acquiring it I have only heard of one other example, and it had been rechamberd into an improved version. I'd love to hear from other .244 HB owners, if there are any who are still breathing.

I looked at a Deluxe grade sporter in a San Antonio gun shop a year or so ago. Overall condition was pretty good, but it had a badly degraded pad and someone had jeweled the bolt, as I recall. Ironically, the gunshop was representing it as "new" and wanting more for it than I was willing to pay at the time.

The rifling twist on my sporter measures somewhere in the neighborhood of 11.7". It does not stabilize 100 grain bullets, so I'm using 90 grainers for deer. The HB shoots 70 gr Ballistic Tips into itty bitty clusters.
