• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Tikka Tikka M65 30-06 barrel twist rate and accurate loads

I'm getting sick of it too! As long as the gun rag writers talk about "twist rate" we will continue to get questions from newbies that for some reason believe all that crap. Maybe we should start a permanent thread for those "worried" about "twist rate" that explains how ridiculous it is to...

    SAKO 404 questions

There is a ton of info on multiple threads here on the Sako target trigger. Just do a search, spend some time reading, & you get all the answers.

    Firing Pin Set Screw

It is a 3mm diameter x .5mm pitch set screw. I get them at Ace Hardware in their specialty screw department. They have an allen head instead of a slot & the end is slightly rounded, but depending on your FP notch you can file it as desired. They come in various lengths so you shouldn't need to...

    AII i havent seen before

I have seen the DBM rifles before in 243 & 308, but I have never saw one in the Mannlicher configuration. Rare bird, I'm thinking.

Sako wasn't the only one hiding the "Flame" with that ugly brown varnish. This birch stocked Savage-Anchutz 22 Target rifle had a plain brown sprayed on finish that hid the beauty, as well. The customer wouldn't believe it was the same stock when I handed it to him.

So who else has a P46

Bronze wool, which you used to be able to get at the local hardware store, was always my go to method for removing surface rust without harming the blue. Now I use this stuff! Nothing will remove the rust in pits, but this stuff will make that light surface rust disappear like magic!! Wipe down...

So who else has a P46

Probably a spanner wrench. It would be similar to an open end wrench except it would be a circular & fit the diameter of the bushing with a protruding piece that fits in the notch on the bushing. Just Google "spanner wrench" for pics. Probably could buy one to fit your bushing at a hard ware...

    Long range 30-06 (hunting)

For big game rifles I have found the best method is to use a circle of 20 centimeters as your target. Then use a zero that will keep your bullet within that circle with a center hold aim point that is as far a distance as the trajectory will allow. It's called the Maximum Point Blank Range. My...

    Pee Fifty-Phoria

Is it correct to say the P54 was never commercially imported to the USA by Firearms International & that any here came through other means?

scope mounting with leoplold steel rings

If it is a Browning round top then my suggestions do not apply. Like BC4Me says, pics are worth a thousand words!

scope mounting with leoplold steel rings

Throw the Weaver bases away, immediately!!!! & get either the Sako made vintage split ringmounts or the Leupold ringmounts that clamp directly to the Sako action dovetails. Search the forum for threads on how to PROPERLY attach them to your rifle. The Leupolds sell for around $75. The Vintage...

    Sako short bolt

The only round I know of that would work in that bolt face is the 6.8 SPC (.422" rim, .425" bolt face). The PPC rounds & the 7.62x39 have a .447" rim & use a .455" face. .429" is very odd unless it was suppose to be done for a 6.8 & the smith cut it a little fat. I'm sure the .429" would work...

    Those little ball bearings

I have several dozen detent balls from various firearms somewhere on my shop floor. I'm sure one or two of them would fit your trigger if I could only find them! Good solution!!

will fast bullets damage my barrels?

Heat is what erodes barrel steel. The faster the bullet, the more the powder volume, & the faster you shoot determines the level of heat. Normal hunting circumstances where shots are few & far between won't create enough heat to harm your barrel in several lifetimes. Don't abuse your barrel by...

    Short Actions 221 FB

My L46 conversion to 221 Fireball functions perfectly with nothing but a barrel change. Try feeding some Fireball rounds from the L461 magazine. The 20 Vartarg, which is the Fireball necked down to 20 cal, is even more fun!!!!

    Do I need a chronograph ?

I have one & it helps a little in determining when you need to stop adding powder when velocity doesn't increase as powder charges go up. But, if you are not concerned about pushing loads to the max, save your money. After all, you have been loading for 45 years without one, so what's the need...

    suppressor for carbon wolf?

The brake screws up to a shoulder where it meets the barrel. Looks like you have enough barrel before you get to the flutes to cut it back & rethread if you need to. Length of threads needs to be .6". Most suppressor makers like to see a minimum .030" shoulder, so a smith can measure &...

    suppressor for carbon wolf?

Had one experience with them & it was BAD! However, I know many others that have purchased from them & were satisfied. They don't actually make the suppressors, but have been very successful at marketing them through their "on-line" service. For people with no suppressor dealers near them they...
