Hey All!
Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board.
They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things.
The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to.
DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES!
They often state something like this:
”Hello!
Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]”
If you receive any strange messages:
Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not.
Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out!
Beware of anything that might seem fishy!
And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username.
You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our!
All the best! And be safe!
Jim
Hi Frank,
is it possible, if the threads are stripped in the receiver, is it possible to have the holes drilled & tapped for a slightly larger dia. set of screws?
Good luck! B/T
Welcome Camp B,
It looks like your Dad's rifle was not used much and seems to be in good condition, as far as I can see. The checkering looks sharp & the bluing too.
A photo of the bolt face would be nice. There were a lot of 30/06 cal. rifles made & sorry to tell you they do not bring a price...
Can you use a 12 GA shotgun with slugs? That's what they specify at some of our Island hunts in GA. Seems like the berry pickers could get some kind of warning that a hunt in that area is going on. If they ignore the warning what else can you do. It is like people jogging on a highway
You can't...
Not meaning any thing bad about European countries & their way of handling firearm & ammo sales or ownership. I would point out the difference in the USA to theirs, It seems that when under the control of the European Union citizens are under a lot of control & have limited freedoms compared...
Mr. Beer is correct.
As a former welder we used 304 Stainless as a cheaper grade of stainless
steel & when needing more corrosion resistance we used the 316L.
This was was specified by the Engineering Dept. P.S. made poor knives. B/T
Hi Matti,
The gunsmith we had was careless & not efficient & he was involved in some deal years ago about guns being stolen. He kept a gun of mine to be action bedded for three months & would get angry if you called him inquiring about the progress. When I went to get it back he needed me to...
Great post Matti,
Your education in these things is a wonderful example of your dad passing his skills on to the next generation, and you have learned it well! All the best & thanks for the information. B/T
edit: We need a gunsmith in Savannah, GA, the one we had was closed down by the Feds.?
I like 20 thou. see my pic. of my AV 30/06 zeroed @ 3" high at 100 yds.
I hope some other members will give their thoughts on the subject.
Just my opinion! might not be worth much! B/T
Arian,
Good wood sealants include oils like tung oil, varnish, polyurethane etc.
A craftsman protects his tools & keeps them in good condition to be ready the next time he needs them. Also, if your Sako rifle has a heavy barrel, good results have been gotten by floating the barrel. I like about...
When you get the rifle & have the barrel channel to your liking, then seal it.
use a sealant spray of what is available to you or a brush & a sealant. A rifle is indeed a tool, but a craftsman keeps his tools well ,as they are his lively hood! JMHO
Arian,
Can't figure why .243 & ammo would higher than 30/06 in Finland?
That is my favorite deer rifle, No recoil, not bad on powder quantity, plenty of bullets to choose from & most of all very accurate. I have taken deer, fox, coyotes, & pigs with them. They were the rage in the 1970s & 80s...
Hi Bloo,
Corn bread is supposed to be off my diet, but when I make the venison stew I sneak in a little. I use Krustease & Jiffy, The Krustease is sweet & I make it in a cast iron skillet. When the Sako barks & the deer fall it's
stew time @ our house!! yum yum! B/T
Welcome Mr. Coenig,
Great family history, as for grand kids, we should have had them first!
Too much fun. God bless you & family. looking forward to seeing your posts. B/T
Hi Bloo,
That stock looks like it was flame finished. Very interesting design,
I guess that's a natural character of the wood, good camo look.
keep well & have fun. B/T
Adrian,
When I was young I would shoot at longer distances. An older friend suggested that if I was going to shoot out to 300Yds. I should zero 3" high @ 100 yds. The theory was if doing so the rifle would put a bullet within an 8" circle from point blank to 300 yds, I did this for a long time...
Arian,
there is an Accubond bullet, by Nosler 165 grain, my friend uses for deer. You will need a different bullet that is made for heavy boned, thick skin animals like Moose & like size game. The Accubond bullets are more expensive than the ones I use. I have killed many deer with my 30/06...
Hello Arian,
It seems that the bullets you have access to are less expensive than what I have here in the USA, and the shipping would be extra! As Matti moose said please be very careful using pistol powders. Not to be disagreeable, but I would avoid using it and stay within published loading...
