• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Tested at the range yesterday. Powders tried were H322, Benchmark, N133, H4198 and WW748. With the 'new style' 748, it shot well over a full grain of charge weight spread. The BIB 47 gr. 'Swiftys' are killer good in a 14 twist. :)

Finally got to the range with the Sako today. It was nasty...damp, humid and 18-22 mph fish tailing winds from about 11:00 to 1:00 o'clock flag position. I'd loaded up 10 rounds of Benchmark and some ancient Sierra 53gr. HPBT Match bullets to get on paper (no idea where they were for seating...

Finally got back to this one. Lapped the top ring halves. They were pretty round out of the box. Since there wasn't much taken off, the Pro Bed was thinned a bit. Chamfered the edges and the gun is ready for a scope and some range time. Good shootin'. :) -Al

Here's the result. If you compare this to the 'before' pic...even assuming that the 'ridges' were making 100% in contact...the 'after' pic clearly shows a doubling of the contact area. It's hard to see in these pics but a small file works to relieve the parting lines at the top. On the...

Lapped and bedded the scope rings on my Sako project: Leupold rings installed: Closer view of the ridges that Leupold puts in their rings. They actually do a pretty good job: What I use for a compound. Ring bottoms have the compound applied: My home made lapping bar is a...

The trigger was at 1.5 lbs with a smidge of first stage take up. After cleaning the trigger to spotless and then flushing it with lighter fluid, some work with the adjustments resulted in a trigger pull of less than 6 oz. with no first stage creep and plenty of sear engagement. Next is...

That's...much appreciated. Now I have to get after this target trigger.....:eek:

Bedding clean up done and it's time to check the work. My approach to pillar bedding is that when the action screws are removed, the barrelled action should literally fall out of the stock...no tugging, no tightness. If there is, there's something preventing the action from making perfect...

Thanks, Kevin! imgur really is slick...the initial graphics are a bit confusing but once you get registered, it's a breeze. Happy to walk you through it, if you wish. :)

Out of the bedding and on to final clean up. The screw holes are deburred and chamfered, the edges are rolled over....generally make sure there are no edges or high spots to prevent the action from lying perfectly on the bedding. An assortment of small files, scalpels, well used strips of...

One of the issues with these Sakos is that the front action screw threads into the bottom of the recoil lug. I'm not a fan of the recoil lug bottom being in hard contact with the pillar. I like a nice bit of bedding on top of all pillars. The issue is....how to solidly locate the action...

Got the pillars made this morning: The center one needs a notch for the trigger mounting. Rather than cut into the hole for the action screw area like you have to do with a Savage, I split the difference and machined .040 off the front of the trigger mounting boss. A view from the...

Got after the bedding. It had been lightly skim bedded at one point but the recoil lug bottom wasn't in contact with the bottom of the lug recess....when you tightened/loosened the front action screw, there was almost .020 of movement. I tried bedding just the bottom of the lug but that didn't...

On mine, the recoil lug area of the stock is pretty wonky. I'm in the process of pillar bedding it now. The chamber is nice, .252 neck and throated for the traditional 50-53 gr. bullets. Randy Robinett (BIB Bullets) made me some .650 long flat based bullets that will work better in the 14...

Thought I'd post my Sako 22 PPC project. This is the gun I'd asked about scope rings for. Thanks to all the responded...good info. I took advantage of some rare down time to work on the little Sako. Set up the f.l. Redding bushing die and it proved to be a perfect match for the factory...

Got the screws. The original fillister headed screws head diameter is .220 and these socket head screws head diameter is .233 so they are not a direct fit into the ring tops. I'll chuck them in the lathe and then hit 'em with some cold blue.
