• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Hello everybody.

I have a sako AV in 7RM

I have mounted on a meopta R1r 3-12X56 with leupold QR : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GFNn0U0YYieYt5r_bNY4TpRz5lx9YgOp/view?usp=sharing

But I have a problem.

With the bases, I can'y use the open sight.
The thickness of the bases is too much of 2 or 3 mm.

I have put a bar on the bases : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xiIDtM-QEgNVSclZ754uwuv6BU7Chqzt/view?usp=sharing

I have been studying several ideas for several weeks....

Maybe someone have a better idea...

I say nothing so as not to influence you.

Thank you.

Francis.
(Sorry for my English).

Hello Francis,

In my view the only way to use the iron sights as a readily available option is to source quick detachable ringmounts ( one piece) or a ring and base system which allows the base to detach, without tools.

The only other scenario I can come up with would be a picatinny rail, then quick detach rings. What I’m unable to determine is, if the picatinny rail would be low enough to allow for the use of the iron sights.

Hope this helps, no worries regarding your English. My French is awful. Take care.

You have approximatively the same ideas as me.

First, I was looking for new taller open sight.
I send a mail to "williams gunsightoptics". They told me they have a solution for the front sight but not for the rear....

After, there are the complete mount detachable and the very very flat picatinny systems....like you said.

For the mount in one piece (ring with scope) : there is, or there was the sako qd warne, but not product yet...

And I found a osuma sako qd mount : https://shop.osumaproducts.fi/en/verkkokauppa/tuotteet/new-osuma-qd-mount-sako-rail-lo-30mm-rings
There are 2 sizes.
I have sent a mail to know the dimension, but they don't answer me. The price is 300 euros....

And after, the weaver bases. But very thin like the original wever with space or way in the middle... Like the sako IOR Base :

Maybe others members have others solutions....

I doubt very much that any solution involving a Picatinny rail would allow you to use the iron sights. It would have to sit up too high. One possibility might be an EAW swing mount. I believe the EAW bases are not as high as the Leupold QD, but it still might or might not allow use of the iron sights. You might also want to try Recknagel. They have an extensive assortment of mounts and there might be something of use in their catalog.

I looked at the Osuma webpage, and according to the information provided, the medium version of their Sako QD rings is good for up to a 56mm objective, the same as your Meopta (by the way I have the same scope, but not mounted on a Sako). Here's the link to the catalog page for medium height. https://shop.osumaproducts.fi/en/verkkokauppa/tuotteet/new-osuma-qd-mount-sako-rail-me-30mm-rings
300 Euros is expensive, but it's probably about the same as an EAW setup. If you decide for the Osuma rings, be sure to verify with them that their rings will work with an AV. Some of the Sako Optilock rings made for the newer models (75 and 85) do not align properly on older rifles.

Actually, I have the perfect solution for your problem, but unfortunately it would probably be impossible to find in Europe. The Warne company used to make a set of vertically split QD rings for Sako dovetails. I have a set on my Sako AIII carbine and they work perfectly. My rings are 1" but they were also made in 30mm, and in high and even extra-high versions. However, they have been discontinued for several years. They can sometimes be found on eBay for around $100, more or less, but I don't know if the sellers will ship to Europe.

Here are some photos.

Yes. Classical picatinny is too high. There is maybe a little chance with bases who are "dug" in the middle.

Maybe someone here has an account on gunbroker to ask the thickness of the bases to a seller, because it's impossible for a french to create an account.... The item is here : https://www.gunbroker.com/item/920491640

Thank you very much for the picture of your AIII.

1) You are satisfied of your Warne QD ? No problem with the "zéro" when you put on/off the scope ?

2)And about your rear open sight. It's not an original ? You have install it yourself ?

1. The Warne rings have tabs that index on the ejection port. Return to zero is not a problem if they are installed correctly.
2. The Williams rear sight on my Sako carbine is original equipment. Many A-series Sako rifles for the US market were factory equipped with Williams sights.

The caliper reading is just a bit over 0.31". One inch=25.4mm so that gives 7.9mm. Say 8mm to be on the safe side.

Ok. My leupold base measure 6,4 mm and it's too tall.

I've measured A warne base on my tikka to have an idea. It's 5,9 mm.

I thought a base dug in center like a IOR base has a chance, but with 8 mm it's a shame....

You're true. There is not 36 solutions (french expression) !

There are the warne QD for sako and the osuma mount....

An other question Icebear, please.

Do you know the B measures like on the picture :

for the warne qd for Sako in Medium, High and Extra high ?
Unfortunately, I do not have that information. I do have a set of Warne high rings for a Tikka. I believe the height on the Tikka rings is about the same as the Sako but I cannot be absolutely sure. Dimension B on the Tikka high ring is about 15mm.

Hello everybody.

I ended up buying 2 sets.

A medium and a high.

But I received a box of medium with medium mount in, and a box of high with medium in too....

After several mail and a phonecall, the shop send me a high mount this week and I have put ma scope 3-12X56 on the rifle :

Next week, I'm going to try to adjust the scope.

I hope this mount is reliable.

I'm going to keep one medium mount because it's difficult to find and maybe, I'm going to put a "lunette de battue"(in French). A model in 1-4X24 for example.

Looks like you have your solution. Are those Warne rings? They certainly look like it. If so, I am surprised you were able to find them in Europe. Or are they another brand of similar design?

Yes the brand is warne.

I have found a Shop in neerland Who have some in Stock.
I think it's the last production because there is a pin only under the front ring.

A question for you Icebear.

Are you satisfy/enjoy of your Warne QD mount on your sako ?

When you put off your scope and put on your scope, is the target point kept ?
