• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Short Actions Reusing .243 barrel with throat issues

Has anyone ever turned down a shot out .243 barrel to fit an L461/AI action and chambered it to 6x45? The 1:10 twist is correct and it seems like a logical move.

OK, the white clad Sako purist may commence telling me that I would be a Sako sinner, but why not? It seems logical to me and isn't recycling what we're supposed to be doing? If, for some reason it won't work (shank diameter, etc.) please let me know.

You would have to cut the entire 243 chamber off in order to chamber for the 6x45. You would then have no shank to thread for the L461 action. Nothing "logical" about it. Did you not notice the different action diameters of the L579 & the L461 as well as the different case diameters of the two cartridges??

I'm sorry if I was a bit short and harsh. Trying to save money by using the seemingly easiest way is not allways so.

If you're trying to save money, use a barrel nut configuration. The "best" is to have a competent smith replace it with a same contour blued chrome moly in caliber of your choice. Just make sure the bolt face fits the desired cartridge.

You mention 2 problems. An issue with the throat, and a shot-out barrel. Is it 1 or both, and what shank are we contemplating?
