Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Somewhat like night and day, IMHO. Main differences are with the safety mechanism and bottom metal. The L57's safety is similar to the L46, where as the L579's safety is similar to the L461. Bottom metal tends to be larger on the L57, and in some cases the magazine box is permanently attached to the receiver. I think the list goes on.....others will probably weigh in.

Typically a semi-inletted stock for an L579 would be adaptable to an L57 since you have to remove some wood from the stock for either of them, anyway. The L57's bottom metal has a rear tang that turns slightly upward whereas the L579 rear bottom metal tang is straight. I've seen a number of customized L57's on which the tang has been straightened out (a simple procedure). Bottom line: A "drop-in" stock for an L579 won't let an L57 drop into it without modification, but a "semi-inletted" stock should do fine for either.

Macon Gunstocks in Missouri lists a semi inlet specifically for an L57. Depending on your level of skill this might be something to consider. This company is a full service provider, so you could pick what’s currently available, or you could select a nicer piece of wood and either do a basic semi inlet or something more complete, again depending on your skill set.
