• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Heads up, "I think" I recieved optilock knock offs

This is just a heads up for anyone using the newer Sako optilocks bases, not the older ones as far as I am aware of, but the ones that are sold through eurooptic.com.

I mounted a scope on my rifle a ways back using my optilock bases and rings. I noticed that I had to max my windage to one direction to get my groups to center on target. Well tonight I decided to wrestle the issue and what I discovered is the ring mounting hole in the rear base, the base with the recoil lug, is off center to the dovetail on the receiver. It took me a few times of swapping scopes, swapping rings, and eventually swapping bases to figure it.

These particular bases I received from eurooptic.com. They all had 6 point hex head screws vs the normal 12 point head screws. I ordered 3 sets of bases and rings. These were not wrapped in the usual hard plastic see through packaging. These were wrapped in white foam and put in a zip lock bags with labels on the outside of bags. I was like ok whatever, they are just trying to save some money on packaging, but now I am wondering if I received knockoffs. Just a heads up to anyone having windage adjustment issues with their newer optilocks and if you purchased through europtics.com.

If any one is interested I have a set of new-in-the-box Sako two-piece Optilocks with 1" rings that I would sell. How about $80? Start a Private Conversation if you're in need.

WOW! And I had always heard that Eurooptic was a straight-up, reliable seller. Guess I should think again. It reminds me of a recent experience with EAW swing mounts. I have three pair - two for FN Mauser that I picked up at gun shows over the years, and a set for Sako that I got from a seller on Gunbroker. Anyway I was mounting a set on an FN-Sako and called New England Custom Guns, the official importer for EAW, for some advice. Turns out that the two sets for FN are fakes made somewhere in eastern Europe, and only the Sako set is real. So it sounds like maybe somebody is making imitation Optilock bases and rings and passing them off as the real thing.

Webphut - it would be a service to the community if you could post detailed photos of your rings, including the bottom showing how the rings attach to the bases. Comparing those with known correct mounts would be instructive.

I would be shocked if EuroOptic was buying them from other than Beretta/Sako.

Now Beretta lowering the quality of the Optilock product would be less surprising...

I have two sets of Optilock purchased through OpticsPlanet. They both have torx screws attaching the base to ring. The side clamp screw has hex drive on one and torx on the other.

My appologies, I have been busy with life. Did not mean to make anyone feel ignored. Been a while since I messed with the rings and bases, but I will see if I can get something set up to show visually my findings. Trying to jog my memory here as it was a ways back when I discovered the detail. I think I had it set up in a milling machine and I was using last word indicator or possibly a center/edge finder. It will come back to me. Anyways yeah, when I have some time, I will get some photos up to show my findings.

As for sending the bases and rings back to the store, I will most times just throw stuff like that in the scrap been and buy from a different store next time. We all win, No nagging customer, no more bad parts.
