• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

AIII Classic

According to the Sako site the AIII was made from only June '78 to Sept '81.
There could not have been many AIII Classics made in three years.
Anyone know how many AIII's were Classics?

I don't have a clue and can't think of anyone who would. I suspect that Stoeger would have archived records which would show how many they handled, which would probably be 75% or more of the production, but so far as I know, Stoeger ain't talkin'. And of course, neither is Sako (Beretta).

The A-III Classics were superior in my view to the A-V Classics since the checkering was somewhat more extensive.

I have one AIII Classic. I agree with stonecreek. It is a beauty and I prefer it over any of the A-V I've had over time. Probably why I still have it, even though I rarely shoot or hunt with it. It's beautiful, accurate and an absolute hammer!

What changed in the checkering of the classic? Did the deluxe show any changes during this transition?

The checkering on the forearm wrapped all the way around (underneath was checkered) on the A-III, whereas on the A-V it was two panels, one on each side of the forearm, with no checkering underneath. However, I have seen late A-III's with the same two-panel checkering as the A-V. This is no big deal, but I like the wrap-around checkering better.

I just bought an AV with serial 57xxxx in a 30-06 . I think make date of 1983 or 84. This rifle fired about 1/2 box of ammo and was put away. It is just like new in the box. The wood is a nice darker walnut but it has the earlier A111 checkering that wraps under the forearm. Makes all the difference in looks of the rifle.

Interesting! All of the A-V's that I've seen had two panels instead of wrapped checkering. Just goes to show that you "never say 'never'" with Sako.
