• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

ES, here's a list I put together of the different floorplate engravings I've seen. I feel certain there are probably some I haven't seen, so I doubt my list is complete. If you know of one I've not listed please let me know and I'll add it to the list.

All I can say is wow...and thanks. A quote from a Southern comedian comes to mind when I compare the knowledge of Sako experts in this forum (like you) to my Sako knowledge:
Describing himself Jerry Clower listed several evidences of how “country” he was...
“I can skin a buck and I can run a trot line...but upsida Loretta Lynn...I’m a city slicker!”

What am I looking at on the Sako pictures I posted above?
It was described to me as a “AII Deluxe” yet it has no rosewood forend...

Thanks Jim!

Here's another variation.

Whoa! WHOOOA!
Rocky posted a photo 2 years ago, of a DeLux floor plate that I have never seen before! I can’t believe that it wasn’t even really discussed..like it went unnoticed!

A Double Sakolope!

The Sakolope is the most common and well known engraving hands down…usually it is accompanied by a sprig of leaves or a vine that adorns the trigger guard.
Rocky.. I think you may have a Sasquatch of the highest order! Very cool!

Edwin..the late A series De Lux’s sometimes were blessed with a very light colored accent wood. Not much contrast can be seen, making it hard to judge from distance. A fine line can be seen on closer inspection. Sako also opted to include a very nicely done palm swell at this time. Nice find!

I care .....But! I am still trying to find the link. I do have many photos saved over many years that I can post . I am however exceptionally overburdened with "honeydo's" and trips to umpteen specialists to do that type of forum post justice. Give me a few weeks and I'll bore the snot out of most of you.

Yes the double Sakolope has to be one of the rarest floor plates that was made my Sako. I don't know of anyone that has seen one like it before.

And now, just how much of a idiot was I to let that rifle get away from me!!!

Bloo and the rest of my fellow Sako lovers. I have collected Sakos for almost 60 years and have tried to learn all that I can about them. The more I think I know the less I find that I really do know. I do know that there have been a tremendous number of anomalies with the Sako production methods over the decades. I also know that modern technology has allowed many folks such as the gentleman in Montana to rebuild, duplicate and assemble parts to produce what may be called restored or rehabilitated. The market is also influenced by folks that interchange Sako parts to gain a favored one of a kind. The bottom line is that you really have difficulty proving that any one given item is a genuine Sako factory produced item except by comparison with what has been proven original by production records, which were very loosely kept by the factory. It seems from a basic logic that there would be no reason for a factory produced rifle to have two Sakolope engravings on the same rifle with all of the inspections that these rifles must pass. Then again, anything is possible since the Finns have always been known to have a tremendous sense of humor.
I have one such weird anomaly that maybe some one can explain. It is a L57 in .244 Rem that is serial # 38x which would seem to be the first year production of L57s. We know that it may have been laying in the bottom of the bin for several years unnoticed, or it may have been a prototype that was not released for years. The old SCA serial records that I have show the earliest L57 .244 known to that club was serial # 4925. Maybe this was incorrect or a non updated record, I don't know but this is a very good example of wide discrepancy of authentication.
Stonecreek. If you would please be so kind, look this one up and post the results for discussion. Please give me your personal contact by PM so I can pay you for the records check. I will also be asking for the same for some of the rifles that I hope to start posting soon. Your records service is an important service to those that want to verify the original shipping information of their rifle. It also helps pin down changes in transition models when comparing pictures.
Any way I have never thought too much about dating Sako rifles except this one. My personal opinion is, do not put too much emphasis on production dating or anomalies for rarity or value. Other opinions will vary I'm sure.
Sakojim.

Bloo, I care too. I didn't respond because I was on our deer lease for the last 4 days having fun.....staying off the PC and phone. I'm going to add Rocky's double Sakolope to my list. It's not just double Sakolope, it's a large Sakolope. Got to be the rarest yet! It's the first Sakolope I've seen on a trigger guard. BTW hunted with my 264 Deluxe in case I had the opportunity to take a neat Sako/deer picture for this group. But no luck, mostly worked on blinds, broadcasters, camp clean-up and hunting vehicles. We have high rises on a jeep, pickup and suburban that we park in the open unsheltered with no attention from the end of season to opening weekend, and they always require help to run again. But we had some excitement and a first for us, the ranch hands told us they have seen a black bear on our lease! We're on the Pecos River in Crockett county and the bear had to came from the Davis Mountains or Big Bend National Park which are about 125 miles from us. We did shoot a feral hog, which is about number 6 for us in 26 years on the lease. And we spotted a massive mule deer buck which makes four or five mulie bucks we've seen in the last few years. The mulies are expanding their range east crossing the Pecos river in more numbers every year. We've seen way more mule deer does than bucks and of course the bucks are following them. The mulies are in greater numbers in the NW part of Crockett county, but they are headed our way. We have mixed emotions, we want the Mulies but not to the extent that we lose the whitetails. The lease we had before this one was 25 miles north of us and had a great whitetail herd. Now on that lease, the whitetail are mostly in too small in number to hunt and the mule deer herd is big and healthy. We think it's the drought that has been going in in our area for the last 10-15 years.

I knew you guys would come around!:)
I’ve been watching floorplate designs since the beginning of my addiction. My first DeLux had Oak Leaves and Acorns..The Sakolope, or at least that title, was invoked by myself here years ago in a discussion on what animal the engraving represents. Since no one could nail down the species…it became the Sakolope! I feel honored every time I see or hear it mentioned.
The Sakolope engraved trigger guard is as rare to me as the Raptor or Birds of Prey variation with the chevron design guard. Also seldom seen…
Deluxes that have been put together with odd combinations of parts are out there I’m sure, whether the dude in Montana who’s name cannot be spoken has any replicated fakes out there can only be speculated. I do feel it would be very hard to replicate some of the engravings that Sako created 50-60 years ago. I suppose it’s not impossible. Kinda like a rare classic car..found in a barn..in horrible condition..mounted to a rotisserie and completely re done to showroom condition..then listed on Barret Jackson..Sold! (As the gavel bangs)

Just Sayin’

ps..
if there is anyone out there who has a Birds of Prey floor plate or Sakolope trigger guard in their Sako spare parts bin…PM me…preferably to fit the 57’s or 579’s. I’ll do up my own personal custom!
