• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Need ID help-30/06 IV?

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

I'm fairly new to Sako but have a .270 Av and a 7mm Fiberclass. I've been looking at a Sako 30/06 for sale but am having trouble identifying it. The owner says it is a FinnBear? It is Stainless Steel and has a fiberglass Finnlight looking stock. The SS barrel is not fluted. On the barrel it has Stoeger stamped and "IV". Serial # is 975*** It has a detachable magazine. Is it a FinnBear? AV? Any idea of year of manufacture. Thanks for any help. I'm trying to learn more on Sako. I'm slowly becoming an addict....

You've described a Sako Model 75-IV. Regrettably, Sako did not put the "Model 75" label anywhere on these rifles. The "IV" refers to an action made for the .270/.30-06 class of cartridges. These were made starting around 1992 or so.

Sound like a Sako 75 Finnlight, Those models are marked with an action length, not a model designation. IV is the correct action length as you’ve described it. Below is a link.

Thanks for the replys! That helps. So it's not a FinnBear? It's a FinnLight-correct?
Finnbear is synonymous with the earlier L and A series rifles. The 75 and 85 rifles are synonymous to themselves. A Finnlight was/is a Model within the 75 and 85 series. I can’t say 100% if the rifle you’re referring to is an actual Finnlight. I’d need pictures to say for sure, but the description makes it seem so. Some earlier Finnlight 75’s did not have barrel fluting.

A quick addition- Sako did build a limited run of 85 Finnbear rifles. However, the only trait to an older Finnbear was an attempt at recreating the old classic stock and pad. Otherwise, this was all 85. These were mostly available through Cabela’s and Europtic. Below is a non fluted Finnlight.
