• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

AV 30-06

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

Hello All,

In need of firing pin for AV 30-06. My father in law gave my son a never fired Sako AV 30-06. Unfortunately the firing pin was modified to not allow the gun to fire as it was used in trade shows to exhibit the Zeiss scope with which it is equipped.
My father in law was not a sportsman so the gun sat for many, many years until he passed it to my son who is an avid sportsman. I am trying to surprise my son with a solution however this part is discontinued.
The rifle is absolutely gorgeous and has beautiful engravings. It a shame not to function.
If anyone has a direction to point me in, I would be very appreciative.

Try Midwest GunWorks. Great people, I’ve been lucky several times over the years in buying replacement Sako parts from them. Otherwise eBay or perhaps Numrich. Best of luck.

Thanks.
I tried both - no luck. ☹️
Strange, I went on their site to purchase another item moment’s ago and they show an assembly in stock. Oh well, I suppose the website may be incorrect. If you keep looking one may turn up, or perhaps a qualified gunsmith could turn one for you given you have an example short of the end.

Could you send link?
I have been on site and also called them. Maybe I am in wrong place. Would really appreciate.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately the picture, if correct, of the L61R firing pin assembly looks different than what I have on the AV.

Only difference would be in the shroud I would think. The pin itself should be the same. If not the case, someone chime in.

Looks like gunner620 may have been able to help out, but if not, the assembly shown would interchange. L61R’s, AIII’s and AV’s were the same action with the exception of the shroud which was not installed until the AIII, although some L61R’s in late production had shrouds. The AV has the shroud and had a slightly longer rear tang by approximately 1/4 inch.

Thank you all for your help.
Great talks with gunner620. Thank you so much for helping a total stranger.
Sean Hodges was also right on that the firing pin assembly from the L61R is interchangeable. I just received it today and although the spring is shorter it does fit and function. Pin protrusion is at .065” so I think we are good.
Looking forward to firing this rifle for the first time ever.

Very happy this worked out for you. Nice to have that Deluxe is back in service. Tolerance is between.059 and .071 so you should be good to go.
