• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Sako L57

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

Hello!

I recently acquired a Sako L57 in 243 but I'm having a hard time finding any information on it. Its unusual because it has a sporter barrel and target stock. I've found them with heavy barrels and this stock but none with sporter barrels. I know it could possibly be an aftermarket stock but it looks very, very much like many models with a factory target stock. Is it possible that mine is factory? Can you help me with a value?

Thank you for any help!

That is not a factory stock. Pic of buttplate would confirm. The value is in the barreled action & if the dovetails have been drilled & tapped to install the Weaver bases, that's not much. As is it's worth what any aftermarket stocked used 243 goes for. Probably worth more as a parts gun.

But plat isn't Sako, it does not fit correctly either. Looks like a quick fix for a missing or broken plate

Great shooter!

Looks like it's going to be sold for parts I guess

Bases are not drilled

Agreed with above - not a factory stock. But can I ask you how easy/hard is the safety to use, ie amount of pressure. I have two L57's and one safety is light and smooth, the other much stiffer , and trying to figure out how it was meant to be.

That looks like an aftermarket stock by Herters. Many bare actions, and barreled actions of the Sako L57 were sold by Firearms International and other US distributors, to be stocked by the customer. I have a 461 action in the white, and still in the box, that I bought in the late 70's for that purpose.

they did a run of after market actions like mine has the 5 shot clip 243
mine is custom stock sako A2 action 5shot clip speacial order
some actions stamped L579 action
supposed too be same actions as hunter but the hunter model come in floor plate
this is wat i got from stoeger
