• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

New to me L579, what do I have?

Very nice old school customized Forester. Awesome figure in a replacement stock. Difficult to tell certain aspects but it’s a non standard caliber, appears as a re barrel. Awesome Black Bear cartridge or close cover round.

So how old do you think this gun is? The forestock is flat like a varmint rifle.
My opinion is somewhere in the 60’s. This was the look of the time period. Most were trying to emulate a Weatherby MKV. From the photos it appears to be a very good custom. Well done.

Sorry, I didn’t address the fore stock. Also a period aspect. Many companies were doing this, BSA, Parker Hale, Sako, Weatherby etc. It’s flatness was well suited to sit in a front rest or on bags. Most found it comfortable while in the field as well.

Very nice piece of wood in that custom stock. Looks like the barrel is short for a nice compact rifle. Finish that off with a nice compact scope like a 2 x 7 and that will be a sweet outfit.

The rings are S&K Sculptured, made in Pennsylvania. First time I have seen them, new Leopold will be residing in them soon.
