• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Sako 85 barrel plug screws for iron sight mount holes

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

I recently bought a new Sako 85 Bavarian Carbine in 308. I am mounting a scope on it and want to remove the factory iron sights and need to plug the screw holes. Anybody know what size plug screws I need? I suspect they're metric.

Paul I have the same issue. Did you ever find a good source?

I am trying to plug 2 holes left after removing the rear sight from my L579. Did you ever figure out what size those plug screws are?

I may try to find some brass plug screws that are a close size and deform them into the steel...

Those screws are the same as the front sight ramp, a custom design in a fine pitch Metric thread M4 x 0.5mm x 4mm long.
Non-standard item (of course) also shared with the Tikka M55...
You really don't want them slightly too long, bottoming out when torqued up and potentially putting a dimple in the bore if used on the front sight ramp!

Very hard to find as loose set screws, you could always make some up using some 4mm drill rod and a M4x0.5 HSS die

McMaster Carr don't list them but DO list a M3x0.5x10mm extended tip set screw which Sako used in the A and L series cocking piece to retain the firing pin.

Regarding the Sako 75/85 Midwest show them, not sure if in stock:

Regarding the M4x0.5 screws needed to plug the tapped holes in a L579, I searched the internet and found the following:

Traxxas Screws, Set (grub) 4mm (6) (w/threadlock)

They appear to be hobbiest screws. Maybe RC cars?

I can't share the link because I haven't made 3 posts here yet.

They were slightly too long, but I filed them down and they do fit into the plug holes.
