• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

L61r barrel

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

I'm trying to figure out whether the barrel of the l61r in the pictures is a factory fit or has the rifle been rebarreled for some reason? SN is in the 20xxx range.

There are no sako or bofors designations present, just the caliber and "made in finland" on the left side.

The caliber is 30-06.

Edit: I was told that the barrel should original, but it has been threaded in the 60's with 15x1 threads for buzzle brake / silencer. At the same time some "cone" is added between the barrel and receiver?? And possibly a thin layer of metal is also removed to fit the cone.
Does anybody have any idea why this has been done?

Thanks!

Strange. I can only provide you with a theory:

Someone attempted to tighten the headspace by facing off the barrel shoulder. They removed too much, so compensated by removing more and taking up the space with a washer between the barrel face and the receiver face. I know that sounds far-fetched, but it's all I can come up with at the moment. Or perhaps it is a replacement barrel on which they set the headspace by this method?

I called to Sako and they confirmed by looking the pictures that the barrel is indeed replaced. The replacement barrel is either Sako or Tikka. And yes, the spacer is for headspace adjustment..
