L579 308 barrel on 243?

What all is involved to convert my L579 243 to a 308? Since they use the same action can I just put a 308 barrel on if I can find one? Thanks,

Mattp- You should install a recoil crossbolt on the stock or bed the action. The recoil from a .308 can crack the rear of the stock over time or if the action screws are a little loose. Sako started installing them around late 1962 so you will see this on .308 stocks. To my knowledge they didn't put them on the .243 chambered rifles. Short answer is yes you can.-Misako

just a quick one, you will have to talk to a smith to remove the barrel and fit a new one, if the barrel is a take out barrel it will have to have the head space checked.
If it has lettering than it will not line up without some machine work.
