• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

    3rd Party Sakos

Sako also sold receivers and barreled actions to the public. Any gun smith or individual could buy one, put it in a stock.

    Firing pin Spring to weak

Some other things to think about. While intended to originally, head space is on the shoulder not the belt. New magnums don't have it. It was more a status thing when they did it post the big hunter Africa era (which it did as it was very positive) First I would have pulled the bolt...

What Is This Site Good For?

Its focused on a really special gun - kind of like being married, got a Sako, yep, enough said.

Why all of this attention to sako rifles???

Well this seems to be self fulfilling question. You like the quality, good enough. As for Trucks, I have to say you are simply wrong. Ford is the only way to go (well the 2000 Rangers sucked but those wern't real trucks either) - F250 Extended Cab, 100k and showing no indications its...

    Inherited Sako L61R Finnbear .264 win.mag

At a guess you rifle is a 1963 or 1964. Yes, the L61R was Sako Finnbear, the others were Forrester and Vixen in the shorter actions. It would have Said Finnbear on the Barrel

L61R Finnbear Deluxe date of manufacture

You are welcome. Kind of a classic. My dad didn't buy new things for himself, but he did buy my mom things (knitting machine and a mixing machine - granted she used both a lot - not low cost though) When we moved to S.E. AK they bought a new boat, safest one around (Boston Whaler) and he...

Could you buy the bare barreled actions like you could in the 60s?

    L61R in A-V stock

Looks like dust or cobweb in the bore! Love those details, at least honest and good pictures

L61R Finnbear Deluxe date of manufacture

Parents can be annoying that way. My dad picked up a 270 L61R first year for my mom back in the day. Keeping in mind we were not all that far above poverty, FAA supplied the housing at a reasonable cost (with utilities!) and money was still tight. I saw a lot of checks of .50 to 1.25 when...

    Getting a L61R 30-06 Accurate

The gun is in petty much unshot shape, I was not getting any response to a range of IMR4350 loads Barrel was definitely not free floating , the contact for the receiver in the stock was not good. So I shimmed up both ends, the front a bit more to get free float on the barrel. Nice crispy...

Sako Action Specs for threaded barrel

I once asked a group of metric users what the socket drives were. After some back and forth, it was 1/4 - 3/8 -1/2. So US standards got used for non US stuff for a long time and sockets are still made that way on the drive end.

    Sako AV or Finnbear Deluxe??

Really nice. I didn't think I could fall in love with an AV. I was wrong!

    Sako .375 hunting

I will add in, when I was hunting, we never shot a cow with a calf. We don't have calve hunting, nothing against it if its a game management mechanism. Our Caribou hunts don't say you can't, but our take is that is the future and no way jose. We both passed on a nice cow (with cow...

    L 61 R Finnbear Questions

I will throw in my 2 cents. My family has a 270 first year (pretty cool) - that said it was shot a lot and wound up with my younger brother who was hunting with it. He came to me and said he was getting large groups and he is a good shot. We made a date and he had 4 or 5 different types of...

    Sako L691 ? what rings

McMasters is alwyas a good place to look for screws. Yeas ago I was able to pick up a box of JIS (Japanese Industrail Standard) O rings. Why does that matter, well amazingly enough, if you don't have the right O ring, and we are not talking just close that I did have, the fuel pipe will...

    Sako L61R 30-06 load data

I like using 48 grains of IMR-4895 behind a 165gr V-max. This is in Norma brass mind but shoots great in both my L61R and AV. Works well on whistle pigs out in the desert south of Boise. 168 A Max ?????? Also length COAL seated is a huge help for a starting point

Finnbear Early and Why the Long Distance to the Lands?

Interesting take on it. Good thought. Certainly had not gone there. Still why do it as Hand loads would not be the norm for any gun, certainly of that era Today with the ELDs I could see it (and my brother has a Rem 700 that is both a heavy barrel and long landed as it were)

    Trigger Troubles

Fair enough - certainly not intimidated by triggers but as noted, its always a lot of fun with needing 3 hands.
