• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

300 Holland and Holland Handloads for L61r

I keep using Sierra pro hunter r.n. 220 at about 790 ms with good results at close range as well as over 130 meters I get advice from more experienced hunters to go lighter to 200 grain bullets or even 180 grain, but I'm not sure about it The L61r 300H&H is a pleasure to shot and a great...

    Firing pin Spring to weak

I have been using the rifle for a while and the firing pin spring was still a bit too strong to the point that trigger pull was a bit on the heavy side, definitely much heavier than before with the worn spring. So, to my knowledge, I had two choices: - ask a gunsmith to make the spring a bit...

    Firing pin Spring to weak

GreyFox, for some reason the spring of my L61r was worn out. A friend in the U.S. got me a Wolff Spring and mail it to Spain, it arrived in only 4 days for only 3 bucks post. I'm real content that the rifle now fires all the different primers I use, even the misfire primers from the previous...

300 Holland and Holland Handloads for L61r

Yeap... lots of fun but not so much success with close range shots. I was an open sights man and for some reason I don't get along well with the new scope at x1. I'd just remove the scope when I suspect I may not need it but I'm afraid I'll lose my zero when I mount the scope back into the...

    Firing pin Spring to weak

After more testing the local gunsmith decided that, for some readon, the firing pin spring is worn out, at least worn out enough for primers from handloads, (primers that work fine in another rifle). The same gunsmith said its quite normal for him to find worn out springs in rifles this old...

    Firing pin Spring to weak

THE BOLT Took the bolt to my Gunsmith. He said the worn inside bolt shaft is normal in a veteran rifle and not a reason to create any problem. HEADSPACE He checked headspace --with paper since this caliber is very unusual here- and headspace is next to perfect. The only rifle cartridges that...

    Firing pin Spring to weak

PO4R, kiitos! Beretta Iberica, --like most companies here except Bergara-- are legendary for their pauperrimus costumer service. When you need a part you better look for it yourself. Too bad I did not buy some basic Sako parts when I was in Finland last summer. Last night I did test 3 kinds of...

    Firing pin Spring to weak

Icebear, I have send an email to a Gun Shop in Finland, something unusual since here in Europe we normally buy hunting related parts in the USA. Why ? Easy communications, good quality, good prices. Lets see... Kevinlg, yes, I reckon I got lots to learn ! Nevertheless I consider, or like to...

Only God alone knows. This Sako has lived in Africa for while so I can imagine someone has worked in this L61, yeap.

    Firing pin Spring to weak

Thank you all for your help and interest in this case I did mention the spring possibility because when I took yesterday the rifle to the gun smith he said when he was handling the bolt, that it was TOO easy to uncock it. I'll keep you informed with the development of this problem

    Firing pin Spring to weak

They are all handloads. Fresh ones, done within a week with good powder. No 300 H&H headspace gauge available at Brownells Spain Yes, I can pull the bullets and powder. And I did so in order to test the same cases with fresh primers after cleaning the firing pin and spring. As I mentioned...

    Firing pin Spring to weak

I took the bolt apart and clean it good. It was dirty as expected but not particularly dirty. However, I found this thing at the picture at the firing pin. i wonder if that doesn't let the firing pin strike with enough energy I placed the bolt back in the rifle, cleaned and lubed, and still...

Thanks a lot for you answers - Firing pin protrusion is about 1,7 mm --a bit more than .055'' -- To add more solid information I took 2 pics. Here is the pic from the ammo that did not go off

    Firing pin Spring to weak

Firing pin spring too weak Rifle: Sako L61r 300 H&H The other day I was hunting in the forest, a big boar came into my direction, I carefully pointed at the running boar and gently pulled the trigger, and then.... just.... a ... click... I inspected the primer and the firing pin dent looked...

    300 H&H

I had a similar experience with high pressures with my Finnbear in 300 H&H however my case was by because using the same bullet and powder weight but with harder and bigger drag bullet which increased the pressure substantially ( Frontier CS 220 gr from South Africa) however bolt lift was not...

300 Holland and Holland Handloads for L61r

The more I hunt with this rifle the more I like it Now using Sierra 220 RN + 58,5 Vihta N-160. about 765 m/s Very light recoil, and fast reload, so light it makes me very curious to try a L61 or similar Sako rifle with a bigger caliber like the 375 H&H or 9,3 x62

300 Holland and Holland Handloads for L61r

3 shots to zero the scope for 50 meters, not exact zero but good enough to me..... Stonecreek, you are quite right it only took one shot to instantly kill a big european boar. It looks to me, under the same circumstances, faster kill, more effective than the .308. It's not nice when it takes...

300 Holland and Holland Handloads for L61r

After some test being done I decided this hunting load: Sierra 220 RN + 57,5 Vihta N-160. about 750 m/s ---2460 fps-- This load is intended for hunting European wild boar at less than 100 meters. One of the reasons for upgrading from .308 to a heavier bullet in 300 H&H is trying to get more...
