• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

    Ithaca LSA 65 scope rings

As far as I know the Warne rings are still in production. Check their website. All Tikka dovetails are the same so any rings made for the T3 will fit the older models. TheCZ 42 7 uses an identical dovetail, but with an indexing pin in the rear ring. The pins are usually removable, so any CZ 427...

    Greetings

On the subject of Tikka rifles in 6.5x55, here are two older ones. I've had my eyes open for an M65, M658, or 695 Sporter in 6.5x55, but haven't found one as yet. The Sporter name is somewhat confusing in an American context. In Finland, the term means a target competition rifle (i.e. Sport) as...

    L46 Mannlicher full stock

On the other hand, I'm quite happy with my "L61R in .222" that I got off Guns International a couple of years ago. All original from 1951, with wing safety and 6x Kollmorgen in Stith mounts.

Proper stock finish on an L57?

    Outstanding job of blending.

Article on Finnish Sniper in the Winter War

I have two of the early (no date marking) m/28-30 rifles, both of which have the upgraded sights. I also have an m/28 that was upgraded with 28-30 sights, including the improved front. Simo Häyhä must have had amazing eyesight to make the long-range shots that he did.

    Sako’s & Game Fall 2023

That is one big gator! Do alligators attack adult deer, or just fawns and smaller prey (in addition to whatever they find in the water)? Having seen lots of videos of African crocs killing wildebeest, I would expect that a gator that size could grab an unwary deer that went down to the river...

    Old European scope ?

Chin Weld it is! Quite accurate, though, so long as you feed it heavy bullets. Here's the whole gun. It's a German custom on a military Mauser action, proofed in 1961. Barrel by J.P. Sauer. I'll be interested to see if anybody can come up with anything on the "OPTA" scope. Do you have access...

The m/91-24 “Lotta” Rifle, Sako’s origin

Nice one. Original condition, nice clear markings, Civil Guard number matching on bolt and barrel. I like it. Here's a link to a post of mine from a few years ago about one of my m/24 rifles with markings that mirror the historical relationship between Finland and Russia. There is a minor...

    Sako S20, a flop?

Sambar and Sako - an excellent combination.

    Old European scope ?

Never heard of it. Might be a distributor brand. Some of the big German and Austrian sporting goods distributors had their own house brands. This one, for instance, is marked Hubertus, which is a distributor house brand. It was probably made by Schmidt & Bender,

    Sako 85 Hunter 85 S score

Amazing. I've heard of things like this, but this is the first time I've heard it from a first-hand, trusted source.

    Sako 85 Hunter 85 S score

First I've heard of the .22-250 being known for bore erosion. As best I can recall from the days when I paid attention to gun writers, the .22-250 was held in high regard because it offered .220 Swift performance with much less barrel erosion than the Swift.

    Old Sako?

Definitely should get a chamber cast. Until the caliber is known, it's a wall-hanger. Buyer interest in a gun of unknown caliber is always iffy.

    LSA55 .308 bolt

Whoa! The .308 and .22-250 are the same length action (medium) and the same bolt face diameter, therefore should interchange. The .300 WinMag is a long action and not the same. Hopefully that's a typo?

    Sako S20, a flop?

    I can't say whether the S20 is a flop. I can say that I don't want one.

    The future for Sako Oy

Just for fun, here's a custom FN-Sako with three different scope setups. 1. As originally purchased with Talley mounts and rings. Mount interfered with iron sights, so I filed a notch in the rear mount to serve as a rear sight. Worked reasonably well. 2. Rifle with EAW-clone swing mount. Too...

    The future for Sako Oy

Not quite. The ring screws are different - the ones on the EAW are larger in diameter. I forget the exact sizes. There are some other minor differences but that's the easy way to tell the difference. I had a long phone discussion with the owner of New England Custom Gunsmithing about a problem I...

    The future for Sako Oy

A valid analysis. However, I still like QR setups on a rifle with iron sights. The scope on my CZ 527 in .22 Hornet is in Warne QR rings because I like to use the open sights for plinking. I don't expect to have to remove the scope in the field, but I do want to be able to take it on and off...

    The future for Sako Oy

Thanks guys, a lot of info here that I didn't know. My experience with European mounts is mainly with the Suhl-type claw mounts and the EAW swing mounts. Claw mounts offer easy on/off and good return to zero, but they are expensive, often require a lot of hand fitting, and tend to mount the...
